The Chancellor, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara, Bishop David Oyedepo, has advocated review of the nation’s education system for Nigeria to achieve the desired transformation. The chancellor made the call on Friday in Omu-Aran at the Graduation, Prize Given Day and Public Lecture to commemorate the 50 years anniversary of Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran. Oyedepo, also an old boy of the school, stressed the importance of quality education in the life of any society and its people. Governor Nasir El Rufai who recently sacked over 21,000 teachers who failed a competency test in Kano is recruiting for their replacement. The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) hereby invites applications from interested and qualified candidates for teaching appointments into public primary schools across the state. Candidates ate required to posses the following: – A minimum of National Certificate in Education, (NCE) – Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria Certificate (TRCN) Holders of B.Ed. Massaging Pregnant Women Is Really Harmful To Unborn Babies – Physiotherapist

A Physiotherapist in Bayelsa State has explained that massaging of pregnant women is quite dangerous to their unborn babies. A Physiotherapist with Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Mr Popoola Olugbenga, has expressed concern over the habit of giving native massage to pregnant women in the state. Olugbenga, who is also the Head of Physiotherapy Department in the hospital told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Yenagoa after a two-day physiotherapy outreach that local massaging was not an alternative to ante-natal care. He explained that the physiotherapy outreach organised and sponsored by the department was part of social responsibility activities to communities in Bayelsa State. The physiotherapist said that the programme, held in about three communities in the state, was aimed at educating the people on the need for healthy living. He urged pregnant women seeking native massage to desist from it, noting that such act could endanger the baby’s condition in the womb.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology just released its first official study on alcohol and cancer. The ASCO says that research explains that drinking is connected to 7 types of cancer. And, even moderate drinking puts you at risk. American Society of Clinical Oncology  (ASCO) is hoping to promote public education about the risks between alcohol and cancer with its latest study. The ASCO — which represents some of the world’s top doctors — says there is research evidence that alcohol is connected to more than 5-6% of cancer diagnoses, including multiple types. The Journal of Clinical Oncology states that a World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) report showed evidence to associate that drinking alcohol was a cause of cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, breast, and colorectum [in men]. Also, alcohol was judged to be a probable cause of increased risk of liver cancer and colorectal cancer [in women]. Modest use of alcohol
